Stroke Association

Are you a victim of a stroke or know someone who was a victim of a stroke? If so, you know not only the seriousness of the condition but also how much of an impact it can make on a person's life. In the case of the latter, the impact is made both on the stroke sufferer themselves and their families. This is because their families are the ones that have to take care of the stroke sufferer as they are going through recovery. Such a process is not always easy, especially since a stroke sufferer may have lost a lot of their facilities. But fortunately, hope is not lost. Through stroke associations a lot of research is being done to help not only prevent stroke but to also help improve the lives of people who do get it. Additionally, stroke associations can be an excellent resource that stroke sufferers and their families can turn to regarding cures, rehabilitation and other factors affecting how one can live with the condition. This article will provide information on three of the most popular stroke associations: the American Stroke Association, the National Stroke Association and The Stroke Association.

The American Stroke Association

The American Stroke Association has big goals when it comes to dealing with stroke. By 2010 the organization hopes to reduce the incidents of stroke by 25 percent. To achieve this goal, the American Stroke Association has done several things. First, the organization has raised over $162.4 million on researching both the prevention and treatment of stroke. It has also formed alliances with a variety of healthcare organizations. With them along with the Ad Council, the American Stroke Association has launched several public awareness campaigns in hopes of increasing the public's general knowledge of the condition. Additionally, the organization provides a national call center, providing information and support to stroke sufferers and their families. Lastly, the American Stroke Association holds a marathon each year to raise even more money for stroke-related causes.

The National Stroke Association

According to the National Stroke Association, they are the only enterprise in the U.S. that is 100% dedicated to helping resolve stroke. While such a statement is controversial, at least it lives up to its name. Like the American Stroke Association, the National Stroke Association works through community outreach programs. The hope is to increase overall awareness of stroke, so people know what to do when they get it along with what they can do to prevent it from happening in the first place. The organization has done this since 1984.

The Stroke Association

The Stroke Association is an organization based out of the United Kingdom, though they can still give general advice to U.S. stroke sufferers through email or a telephone call, (if a person doesn't mind paying international phone calling fees). For UK residents the organization works through their Rehabilitation and Support Services center. This is a place that provides group support, information and even welfare grants to stroke sufferers and their families. And, like the other American-based stroke associations featured in this article, The Stroke Association also uses public awareness campaigns to increase everyone's overall knowledge of the disease.
